South Africa cricket board has announced that, they are going to start their own twenty20 tournament and named it T20 Global League. This tournament will be played on different venues in south Africa. Haroon Logart the CEO of CSA disclosed that the t20 league will begin in last quarter of 2017, most probably from 4th November 2017 to December 16. South Africa T20 Global League Schedule 2017
In a press conference CEO of CSA, Haroon Logart revealed that the Global T20 League is scheduled to start on November 4 and December 16, 2017 and there will be eight teams participating the tournament.
Teams in T20GL are based on different cities in South Africa and it include: Benoni, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria and Stellenbosch. Cricket board also announced franchise owners on 19th June 2017; Shah Rukh Khan, Javed Afridi, Fawad Rana, GMR Group, Osman Osman, Ajay Sethi, Mustaq Brey and Sushil Kumar.
Franchise owners will be allowed to pick their players and complete their squad using the draft system, t20 global league draft will be held on 19th August 2017. The process will be similar to the other famous leagues like Indian Premier League, Pakistan Super League and CPL and Big Bash. After drafting their will be a contract signing ceremony between two parties.
It is expected that the CSA will announce the 2017 T20GL schedule on completion of drafting and contract signing process. But its very clear that the tournament will be played in the last quarter of 2017. This is the time when Ram Slam T20 challenge is played, may be this tournament be shifted to January or some other month. More information on fixtures of global destination t20 league will be revealed soon. But ESPNCricInfo revealed that the first edition of global league will start on 4th November and final will be played on 16th December 2017.
All the matches of global league t20 will be hosted by eight different stadiums in South Africa and each ground is linked with a particular franchise. Ground include: Boland Park, Mangaung Oval, Kingsmead Stadium, Newlands, Willowmoore Park, SuperSport Park, St. Georges Park and the New Wanderers Stadium.
There are chances that T20GL will have a clash with Big Bash League and Super Smash T20 tournament in New Zealand. Lets see will the cricket board of South Africa will be able to attract top players from around the globe to their first ever edition of t20 tournament.
